The column shifter on my son's 1994 Ford Ranger 4x4 with the 4.0L engine is stuck in Park. Looking for help in diagnosing and fixing this problem.
So far we have replaced the key lock cylinder (old one was sloppy), replaced the stop light switch, dropped the steering column to see if there was a solenoid preventing the shifter to move (1994's apparently do not have a solenoid), pulled the truck back with another vehicle too see if the we could take pressure off the transmission (ranger is parked on a slope).
Next step is to remove shifter cable from transmission to see if we can manually shift out of park.
Any advice or insight is appreciated.
