hello all! My truck is an 89 with a 2.3 out of a 92. Had sone really bad idle problems recently and finally fixed it with a new map sensor. Now it has gotten much colder and I’m just curious if this new issue is actually an issue… after my truck gets to temperature it still wants to idle at 1200 rpm…. Sometimes I can pop the throttle to 3000 or so and it will settle down kind of like taking a choke off but not always. Now I only really take short trips to work and the dump in this truck. About 12 miles one way or so. So just curious if this is normal or not.

I’m not sure with the year of your truck if you have one or not but the Intake Air Control Valve could be sticking. If you have one, it should be on the throttle body. You could try removing it and cleaning it and see if that fixes the problem.

My credo
Lead follow or get out of my way
I would try unplugging the IAC with the engine at operating temp. The idle speed should drop... maybe even stall.

If it doesn't... look for vacuum leaks.

If it does... you could have issues with the ECM not seeing that the engine is warmed up and entering closed loop. Which could be the ECT sensor not reporting properly. It could also be as stated above a sticky IAC.

I replaced the iac and ect sensor when. I was trying to find my last idle issue. But I will check them both out again. Thanks!
