as Ron said, modern engines do not restrict anything, the more power you can get from an engine means the most efficiency. Efficiency means the best fuel economy. There are few things if anything you can do to boost power outside of forced induction these days.

so this is boils down to bang for the buck and what I'm reading is it's not worth it to those without bucks to needlessly burn (aka money better spent elsewhere)?

Best thing you can do for a 3.no truck is to replace the 3.no

Theres a supercharged one around the forum somewhere...

Not a great V6. Cheap, durable, and low maintenance, but just like a steer, no balls.

3.0l Vulcan engine is DESIGNED to get best power at 3,500-3,900 rpm, so its a HIGH RPM engine

Most engines make best power at 2,500 to 2,900, if you drive it like "most engines" then you will not have good power

Drive it "like a rented mule" keep the RPMs up and you will have best power and best MPG
If you lug it around town under 3,000rpm then you will be disappointed

Well that answers the age old question, "Does a rabbit know the difference between a pancake and a hat"
Apparently not

You can do what i did. Take your stock filter housing off, remove the part that goes thru the fender & cut off as much of the rest as you can & still mount it to the fender. Then put in a k&n filter. It helped my truck a good bit, i could actually feel it. Getting rid of the factory fan & putting an electric with a thermostat, iridium spark plugs & 5w30 pure synthetic oil also help a bit.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
