Could someone post the procedure for testing a coil pack on a 4 liter V6 Ranger engine?? What are the specs for the resistance??

Thanks.

What exactly are you having problems with. What is the truck doing? Is it not starting?

The V6 models have 3 coils on the coil pack, each fires 2 cylinders

There is a 4 pin connector, 1 pin is for 12volts to power all 3 coils, then there is 1 pin for each coil, this is the ground for each coil, the computer grounds each coil to power it, then removes the ground to fire it, just like the points did on an older system.

You test each coil by using an OHM meter on its lowest setting, usually 200
Touch one probe to the 12v pin and then the other probe to one of the ground pins.
Pins are arranged 12v--gnd--gnd--gnd or gnd--gnd--gnd--12v
The acceptable range is 0.3 to 1.0 ohms, so very low
Test each of the 3 coils this way.

Then test each spark plug terminal, set OHM meter at highest scale
Put probe on one ground pin and the other probe in one of that coils spark plug terminals
Acceptable range is 6,500 to 11,500 ohms, then test the other terminal for that coil, it should also be in that range.

repeat for all 3 coils
They are arranged like this:
pin----spark---spark
pin----spark---spark
pin----spark---spark

This is a static OHM test for a coil, coil can still cause misfiring when warmed up so while testing this way can for sure show if the coil is bad, it does NOT "prove" the coil is 100% good.

what else do you think it is the icm? you had said that the engine cranks around 200rpm right. so i should be able to see that on the, whats it called tachometer? so i looked and it moves a tiny bit like you can barly see it move.
