Our coil packs are waste spark, so there are 3 coils in the coilpack and each one controls the spark for 2 cylinders. It fires the spark for both cylinders at the same time even though only one cylinder will use it (wasting the spark on one cylinder). The coils and numbering vary a little by year, but this is the basic idea:
What that means for you, is that if a coil has gone bad, you'd probably have misfire codes for
both cylinders that the specific coil fires instead of just cylinder 2. For the pic above, you'd have misfire faults for cylinders 2 & 6 because that coil controls spark to both of those cylinders.
I've fixed a misfire issue with a new coilpack before but I'm pretty sure I was misfiring on multiple cylinders instead of just one. Before you spend hundreds on a new coil pack, I'd go over your plug wires well and then pull the plug for cylinder 2 and check it out. That might help narrow down if it's a fuel issue or spark.
