I went out and gave my 2.3 a close look, trying to diagnose a miss
Looking at the factory original coil I found a massive crack across the front
you can see it in the picture, I assume this could be my problem?
Hopefully it will run for a bit longer, till I can afford the $80 coil

thanks for looking
Dave

If you haven't looked on rockauto, I would to see if you can find one for a better price.

Take a piece of wire, ground it, and then attach it to a screw driver and wave it around that coil with the engine running. See it if arcs. That will tell you if it is cracked and causing issues, or just stressed plastic.

If it is bad you should be able to borrow one from a JY vehicle with either a 2.3, 2.5 or 4.6.

This :) Also, check other online retailers, I got some super cheap. Not oem but better than nothing and they usually have warranty of some sort

In A pinch ??

Clean the area around the crack, good tube of silicone , BEAD (keep it thick on top of the crack) do NOT wipe down to a thin layer, let it dry overnight (DO NOT START until then) WHY ? cause it will arc THROUGH until the silicone is dry. IF it arc's through then everything you did is for nothing !

LET IT DRY !!!!! then start the next day... (Lunch time even) should hold out for a couple of months until you can save for a new coilpack......
