How are you doing, I have a quick question. My truck won't start and I diagnosed it to what I am pretty sure is the clutch pedal position switch. My plan was just splice it straight through. My question isn't which 2 splice together. My question is what are the other 2 wires (4 total) and do I need them for anything else? Thanks for your time, when I get some time to get some pictures I'll throw them up.

Truck is a 95 3.0 4x4 5 spd

In a 1990 Ranger diagram it shows Pink wire IN from ignition switch and Pink wire OUT to starter.

In this post for a 1993 3.0l Ranger: http://www.justanswer.com/ford/7ujdg-ford-ranger-replaced-wiring-harness-dash.html

It show Red/light blue stripe wire IN and Pink wire OUT to starter

In both diagrams the Pink wire OUT changes to Red/light blue stripe at a connector so that would be its color at the starter connection.

This clutch switch is not an expensive part, under $25, it is more common for ignition switch to be the issue, so if possible test for 12v at the Red/Light blue IN wire with key turned to START, if no 12v then ignition switch is probably worn out.

Thanks for the quick reply. I understand which is my in and out I'm just curious to what the other 2 wires are for and if I can just leave them hanging without it effecting anything. If I wasn't laid off I would just buy a new one.

You can just strip back some insulation on the two wires and connect then together or use a trailer wire plastic splicer(connects two wires together)

Sorry mis-read post, the other wires are not really needed on manual trans pre-OBD II(1995), they tell the computer the clutch pedal position, and that connector was connected to Automatic trans harness for it's NSS(neutral safety switch).
You can just unplug the connector and leave it that way, after splicing

One of those sets is for killing the cruise control when you put the clutch down.

Thanks, appreciate the help. I just have a paper clip jerry rigged in there right now. I will bust out the soldering iron and make it pretty.
