Changing oil

Ok I done my second oil change today. Did first around 1500 just to break in I guess. My own comfort zone. To change the filter you have to remove this rubber flapper thingy in the driver wheel well. The first time the I couldn't get 1 of the little plastic things to screw out. Well fine to took the others out and swung it out of the way. Well today 2 more wouldn't come out. Am I the only 1 this is happening to? Just a question. i ordered some more off Amazon for about 5 dollars but who ever came up with those little things should be taken out to the barn and get their ass whooped haha.

Despite my crummy experiences with them recently I'm planning on having the dealer do my oil changes pretty much forever lol. They have an oil change package called "the works" that costs 20$ and it includes a washer fluid fill and tire rotation.

The oil and filter alone costs about 60 bucks.

Yeah idk how they do it lol but definite no brainer for me. Only "downside" is needing to get a ride to-from work for a day from my fiance but it's nice getting chauffeured every once in a while lol.

Yeah, those fasteners are a pain. Often the force you need to keep the screwdriver in the head is more than the threads will take as they try to back out. I usually end up putting a tiny screwdriver under the head of the center part while I use the screwdriver to unscrew it and that mostly will work. Unless its in a spot where you cannot get both hands in there at the same time... If I have to replace them I use christmas tree fasteners.

It’s easier if you pull the tire but not necessary. I try to remember to do it when I swap tires just because I’m pulling the wheel anyway for that and to inspect the brakes.

Pretty much any vehicle I’ve had with those fasteners have had an issue.

I've done 4 oil changes on our 2019. For those pesky little black fasteners, if you take a flat blade screw driver and slide it under the outer ring and rotate the screwdriver slightly to apply a little outward pressure, and then use a phillips screwdriver in the center screw, the screw will come out every time... well it's worked for me every time anyway.

Dealer charged me $54.95. Usually I do it myself but that beat jacking it up and moving tires around in 90+ degree heat.
I got one of these for the clips from Amazon, $5.99 plus tax.

I did the oil on the 2020 Edge a few weeks ago. Fun times. There is no access panel, or rubber flap, nothing that easy. You need to remove 13 or 14 7mm screws and take the entire lower engine cover off which goes from the front bumper to behind the front wheels so not possible to reach all the screws without putting it on ramps/jack stands or hiring a 5 year old child to crawl under there...

Also gotta love the 5.5 quart oil capacity... Couldn't round that number off eh Ford?

Gotta take off skid plate in Ranger. 6.2 quarts I think. Took about 6.5. I agree why cant it be a even 6 or 7. So now I got half a quart of oil sitting around to keep up with.

^ Because the engines like the T6 truck are not an American design, they were originally Asian/Australian designed & the engines originally assembled in Spain, over there litres is the unit for measurement & the capacity is 6 litres.

I just put 6 quarts in it and call it good. It’s on the upper side of the hash mark. So, it’s all good.
