I'm painting the wheels of my 99 ranger, and I'm wanting to get new center caps and paint the ford emblem. If anyone knows where I can find some that are chrome and already painted that would actually be much easier.

Otherwise, I'm looking for any advice on what kind of paint and clear coat to use and any tips the community might have. Is it possible/practical? I've never tried painting chrome plastic before, and don't want to mess it up

Thanks in advance

I'm gonna say very little will stick to chrome plating. I see painted chrome parts all the time with the chrome showing through. Supposedly chlorine bleach will remove the chrome plating from plastic. I didn't have much luck with it. Check out the model building community. They have all kinds of tricks.

Thank you, I was afraid of that with chrome. I was actually thinking about the model paint pens that I have after I posted the thread. I'll check with some Gunpla builders I know and see what they have to say.

If you can get a diamond grit fingernail file from the dollar store, rough up the surface with that. The files that are on paper sandwiched foam.

If you are not totally committed to your wheels but really want ovals... the FX4 Alcoa wheel is pretty nice looking wheel that has blue ovals on the center caps.
