Catback install question

I purchased this:

The only thing remaining in my current truck (2001 Ford Ranger XLT 2.5L RWD) is some muffler pipe that is sticking out of the cat. I cut the rest off including the old muffler, what stuck out of the remaining muffler pipe, and then the rest of the tail pipe.

My question is, will I still need to unbolt the remaining muffler pipe sticking out of the cat? Or does it get welded to the kit that I bought? Or do I need to cut it off more?

How long of a job is this? Here are directions:

The exhaust fumes are annoying, if I need to drive it around with no muffler, should I keep the windows closed and turn the AC on? I plan on either doing this myself next weekend or having someone do it. I live in upstate NY so the rust is really what is taking out any will to do anything myself.

It should bolt in place at the rear of the cats. I did mine in the driveway in less than 2 hours. Since most of your stock components are already gone, it might take even less time. If you don't want to fight the rusty exhaust bolts, you can buy replacements at most parts stores and just carefully cut your rusty ones off.

This is what remains. Does what my kit come with bolt right onto whatever gets removed in this picture?

I'm looking in the kit and it seems smaller than the couple foot piece I think that is needed? Or will the muffler only be about a foot behind the cat with this new kit I have? Before, the muffler was like two to three feet behind the cat.

Here's what my old muffler looked like. I remember it broke and the shop welded something. You can see this piece in front of the muffler is at least a foot, and the last pic I posted is probably a foot, so the math doesn't add up.

That Gibson piping is 2 1/2", the pipe under the truck at the ball & socket location (that you cut off ) should be 2".
The Gibson piece has the ball & socket on the front end, if yours is now gone you'll need to get either a new ball & socket @ 2 1/2" welded on to the back end of your stub or cut off that ball & socket & get a 2 1/2" to 2" reducer welded in reverse into it's place.

There are 3 different wheelbases for the truck (112", 118", 126"), depending on which yours is will determine the length of an intermediate pipe that is needed to fit that gibson assembly under the truck.

I put a Gibson on my Sport Trac and it was a slam-dunk to install. The only issue was that I needed to scrounge up some shorter bolts for the cat flange as the OE bolts were too long and bottomed out on the Gibson flange. Sport Tracs only come in one size but I would imagine the Ranger kit comes with a midpipe for the longest wheelbase (Supercab) and you would have to cut it to fit if you have a regular cab long bed or short bed. It sounded good for a V6 though and I picked up 3 mpg on the highway over the EPA rating (city mpg was no different). The Gibson muffler had since rusted a hole in it and I had it replaced with a Flowmaster DBX using the Gibson pipes, it's a little quieter.
