Pennzoil Synchromesh in FM146???
Alright, I've got a 1992 Ranger with the 2.9L and the FM146 tranny. I just got one with about 10k on a rebuild and I've got it cleaned up and ready to go into my truck. The problem is that I can't find GL-4 anywhere locally! The "closest" I could come is Pennzoil Synchromesh from O'Reilly's. It specifically states it is not corrosive to yellow metals such as bronze, copper, and brass, but it does not list a weight. (Best I could find online is that it's about 80W) I bought 3 quarts due to a lack of options, but I have NOT put it in the tranny yet. The same store can order 75W90 Royal Purple GL-4/GL-5 which also states it is non-corrosive.
Has anyone here run synchromesh in an FM146? Anyone think I'll have problems with longevity? It does state that it is not intended for ALL manual transmissions but that doesn't mean it won't work for mine....
Opinions please!
Thanks in advance,
krug
