Anyone ever get stuff from them? I was going to order 6 lug nuts, cost about $15, and shipping, also about $15. I thought wtf and added the Lisle headlight adjustment tool thinking the shipping wouldn't change. It changed to $25 shipping to get basically 25-30 worth of parts that weigh maybe a pound. I wrote to them and haven't yet heard back, but I told them, you aren't going to get many orders charging that for shipping for a few small things that could be put in an envelope and mailed for a couple bucks.
Bummer cuz they had the nuts I wanted, but no way I'm paying $50+ to get half that value in parts. As I told them "something is wrong".
Wondered if anyone had ordered from them with better success (or not).

I got the hitch for amandas Bronco from them because it was the cheapest.

By the time they stuck fright on it it cost about the sane as anywhere else.

Freight did seem high on its own though.

What's the worst that could happen?
I bought - or tried to buy - something awhile back. I don't even remember what it was. I do remember it took them about a week to tell me the item was unavailable and another week to refund the cash.
I no longer consider them for anything.

EDIT:
I just looked it up. It was a brake line for my 02 Sport Trac. $29.51 for the line and $20.58 to ship

Yeah there is definitely something fishy.
And with what they charge Fedex is warning they won't make anything (profits).
Sounds like I might as well cross CarID off the list they don't sound like a player.
Too bad cuz they had (supposedly) the lug nuts I wanted, but I'm sure they must be available other places.
I know it costs a lot to ship, but for instance RockAuto charges, sure, but I had brake drums shipped which is what, 40 lbs a pair, and it was not that much. I mean, you can't tell me that shipping a few lug nuts costs more than shipping brake drums, that just wouldn't make any sense. It's like stuff you see on ebay where the price is really low but they are making it on the shipping (overcharging).

Shipping cost is fuel and fuel is higher
Shipping cost for a part sitting on the shelf is included in the price, so "in stock" should cost more, and even more if it needs to be shipped again to you, lol

Retailers have to pay someone to put ordered parts in a box, pack it, and then label it and then send it out
Labor + material(boxes and packing)
How hard is that?
Doesn't matter it ain't free, lol

I look at it more as, can I drive over and pick it up for less?
If not then ship it :)

I found that they had an excellent price on several Gray Pneumatic sockets that I was missing from my set. Way better than anywhere else online. However... shipping on maybe 1lb at most of sockets that would fit in a small padded envelope was like $25. Every time I look at stuff there it's like that.

It's not a matter of shipping costs simply being higher, it's a matter of them ripping you off. Shop elsewhere.

Yeah... I have O'Reilly, AutoZone, and Advance all within 1/2 mile of me and NAPA maybe 2 miles so lots of places.
Just some stuff can't get except online.

I realize everything is more expensive, but for instance I ordered Speed Bleeders and the shipping was almost nothing - a USPS envelope, done. Plus I got the wrong ones and they sent the right ones free of postage so kudos to them.
And RockAuto paid for shipping back a drum which, was the right part# but was different.
I know they all have to cover costs and still make money, but the thing is, you don't make money on small volume and that's what happens when people are driven away. No way I'm paying $30 shipping on $30 worth or parts, unless of course, it added up to less than others (and it doesn't).

That's such a simplistic way of looking at it. Takes all the fun out of bitching about it.
I do the same thing. It's the lesser of two evils..
EDIT:
Need to splain further:
I don't mind the shipping costs - to a point.
What I do not like and will not deal with - to a point - is ineptitude. If you ain't got the part, then say so.. And don't take the money until the part is shipped.
Everyone gets a second chance depending on how inept they are.
In my book CardID crossed two boundaries. I won't deal with them again. :)

The shipping costs you are charged also has a lot to do with how far you are to parts warehouses that drop ship for internet retailers. I'm fortunate enough to be surrounded by them. Most of the stuff on Carid ships to me for free. There's plenty of single items I can order on Rockauto for $6.00 shipping. Most orders with a few items will be around $10-$11 to ship, maybe $14 is something is heavy, and I would have to really order quite a bit to get the shipping cost up to $20. This is assuming everything I order is coming from the same warehouse and it all fits into square boxes.

James,

Once I decide on the product to resolve my situation, time permitting, I begin to shop. I look where I get a discount 1st, then check eBay, Amazon, the big auto.coms, JC Whitney, carID and locally.

The two that were the go-tos we're carID and Rockauto; it is situational, sometimes the shipping is stupid cheap from one and not the other.

Case and point, I'm installing a new fuel tank on my BII. Though the price has dramatically changed over the last 2 years, It was markedly less expensive for Rockauto to ship my parts list, than Summit, carID and all the others.

When we have the time to shop, we must. Like the expression states, "do I have the time to do what I need done or the money to pay for it to be done", it is never both.

there is a guy on here who seems to order everything from CarId.
I order most stuff from Rockauto. If the price and shipping seems ok, I just do it. Have a shipping warehouse nearby, and stuff normally arrives next day.

Big stuff normally cost too much to ship from RA I’ll get it from form eBay or whatever. EBay was $100 more on a radiator support, but it was free shipping so it ended up being $50 less then RA after shipping.

The big sites use some kind of automatic shipping calculator. RA's calculator is pretty cool actually. It takes into account the size of each item, estimates # of boxes, and knows which warehouse the stuff is in. It's a lot harder to get all that to work than it seems... hence your beef with Carid.

I used to work for a company with one warehouse next door to our one client. The client would buy stuff, deliver it to us, and "order" it from us. Literally all we did was receive stuff, inventory it, store it, and ship it out. Our goal was to not get calls asking why we weren't following fifo, cause they knew what serial numbers they were expecting. We'd get a call every month or so and management sure got heated cause it ought to be such a simple task.
