I’ve seen a few of those designs. By the time I saw them, I was too heavily invested in what I have now. The only thing that may or may not be an issue is how they get anchored to the ground and whether not that will be a problem where you want to put it. To me, having pipes driven into the ground to act as sockets would be the most secure. Boards with a flanged receptical fastened to them might work too.

That's what I'm wondering Sarge is anchoring. The only thing I can think is pour a footer cause there's just nothing solid here to anchor to. It's also windy most of the time
It's mostly black dirt here, dry it's hard as concrete and wet it's just a swamp

That’s a tough one. Is the ground too hard to drive pipes into the ground? The stakes I’m using might work if you get longer ones. I can’t remember if I got them of amazon or ebay. When I take pictures, I’ll take pictures of the stakes for reference. I should be able to get that done today. I finished the frame construction last evening.

There are anchors that can twist into the ground using a 2x4 and walking in circles. They have a rating so you would have to figure out how many you need. Up here they are about $20/ea at the local lumberyard.

I am also in the process of building a "portable carport". In the summer it will provide shade, and in the winter it will block wind and provide a little bit of warmth. I will try to get some pics uploaded, but mine will be very "mobile & versatile" The dimensions are roughly 7'Wx10'Lx8'H with wheels on the back so I can roll it to my nonworking vehicles and cover them as needed. but with it being so narrow I cant leave the doors open and stay warm at the same time, but with the Florida weather, that wont be too much of an issue.

This is a mock up so far. It will be covered (eventually) with Canvas on the side, and the black shade cloth on the top

I have something similar to what you are talking about anchoring my shed with a cable strung through the structure from anchor to anchor to tie it down. Lowes sells them IIRC. They would need a pretty big hole drilled through base unless a cable system is used like I mentioned above. I believe the cable and u-bolts came with the anchor as a kit.

These are some links I have saved from when I was researching tarp shelters. I came across a really good deal for some 12 mil white translucent fire resistant heat shrink poly that I'm going to use. Its the same product that's used when wrapping boats and RVs for storage. The stuff should last 5 to 10 years.

These are the vinyl tarps I am using. Two 20'X20' with 2' grommet spacing. They will overlap in the middle with the front laying on top of the back so if too much air gets trapped, it will vent in the direction it is blowing in. Once I have the tarps installed, I'll try to show what I did. The back portion is already on but it was raining and I didn't want to chance ruining my phone.

You don't have the worries of getting strong side winds there, but that's my worry here far as footing is concerned.
I'll have to get some gravel and dig a trench, lay some rebar, mix some cement with sand and gravel, and pour a footing. That will likely be the hardest part.
Then build a basic frame and roof and close it in somewhat.
Then I'll use more of the gravel for "paving"

It is sheltered some but my house faces South. The prevailing wind comes from the West and the bad weather from the East. It sticks out enough to catch the wind and funnel it back. Not as bad as a stand alone structure out in the open to be sure.

You may need to pure a footer regardless of what structure you chose to go with.

Ok. Tarp pictures as promised. They are two 20' X 20' 18 oz vinyl tarps. The back one installed first with the front one layer over top so that any trapped wind can be vented in the direction it is traveling. Where possible, the tarps are fastened to the frame with 1 1/4" screws through 1 1/4" washers so the grommets won't come off the screws. The rest is lashed and laced down with 550# para cord.

The lights and wires have been run. Nothing fancy. Just some cheap, clamp on aluminum work lights with LED bulbs plugged into a daisy chain multi outlet cord. If you really want pictures, I can provide some.

You do this every winter? Why not just leave it up all year?
