I pick up 2 loaded front calipers for my 02 Ranger. Quoted 92 dollars per caliper. Picked them up didn't look at the bill. Well the bill reads.
price 195.65 net 90.00 amount 90.
core 50.00
tax 9.10
total 149.10
Does this mean I have 2 for the price of 1?
I had the samething happen on brake shoes. They quoted me one price but charged me a lower than the quoted amount. But it also showed on the bill the quoted price and the lower price.
What gives?

No. What the core is is your old caliper. Take the old caliper back in the box and they will refund you the core charge. Basically you are paying for 2 but in turn get the money back. You must have bought a remanufactured caliper so they will rebuild your old caliper and resell it later on down the road. That way they don't lose out on the rebuild i guess. I work at a parts store so I know this stuff, lol. Good luck!

Shes right about the core charge, but they charged him the lower price he should have payed the $195. Then when he took his old one back he should be refuned the $50 core charge making it $145 for his parts. Id take the old ones back for the refund, they may not catch the first mistake and give you another $50 for them.

In my local parts store sometimes they Quote list prices over the phone and then charge what they call net price. They do this when there also supporting parts for local shops so if you get A repair estimate at A brake shop they support, the customer dosn't yell at the shop for being hosed on the parts after they call the parts house and get quoted net price.these are napa style parts houses that carry A running bill like he's talking about.
