One of these days I'll get used to car camping. I don't dislike the concept at all, it's just that all of my normal camping involves covering lots of ground and my gear selection is oriented towards that. When a trip comes up that doesn't involve backpacking to the tent site, I end up staring at my pile of gear in confusion about what to grab.

Just pack normal. Then toss the pack in the car.

I've definitely done that. And it creates some comical moments when I break out an alcohol stove for a cup of tea or set up a bag of overnight oatmeal when everyone else is in their 10 person tents with a full size propane bottle cooking multi course meals.

It's been a super long time since I've done that. Not sure I'm even up to it anymore. We're thinking small camper moving forward... the wife is never sleeping in a tent again... so she is forcing me into the glamping arena.

That said... when I finally get to northern Michigan... I'm hoping for a few overnight float trips with the canoe. That requires a far more minimalist approach. But there will still be room for a small cooler to carry food and drinks. But I have a dry bag with my Slumberjack satellite tarp and Grand Trunk big boy hammock. Still enough room for a sleeping bag and a couple other comforts of home. I'll be glad not to carry everything I want/need on my back to get to camp.

If everything falls together just right (weather/temp/bugs) sleeping under the stars is really neat. Especially out where there isn't much for light pollution.

I just got back from a week of camping in New Mexico. I used my new ARB awning/tent room, really like it, it's definitely more setup and tear down but the ability to keep everything else packed up and organized in the back of the Explorer is a very nice tradeoff.

It was very hot one night and I tried sleeping outside my bag...ended up freezing my ass off at 3 in the morning when the temp dropped down to about 50 degrees.

My last solo camping trip with pop up Quechua 2 seconds – this is really a 2 seconds instant tent. But more of it you will like the privacy and how dark it is inside.

I have never slept until 10am in the woods before, but I did in this tent on 2 days in a row. I would suggest this tent for any solo camper with a vehicle.

I hear Pop up tents can be a PITA to roll back up, at least compared to a regular tent.

Packed and ready to go for the next outdoor therapy session.

The vinyl tarp is pretty cooked from sun exposure and ready for a replacement. It's held up a lot better than the canvas and poly tarps I've used in the past. So, I'll definitely get another vinyl tarp for a replacement.

As @lil_Blue_Ford discovered... we have ways of dealing with oversleepers.

For the record…. I wasn’t sleeping. And neither was my girl… we were, however, not trying to let the entire campground know what was going on…:sexe::hottubfun:
