Some engines run a different oil initially and it is better for the engine to run so many miles/hours/whatever with the "break-in oil" than to go straight to the normal stuff.And by the way, a dealership that doesn't do service that you've asked for (an oil change at 1500 miles), because it's not needed, is worthy of respect. They don't want you to pay for unnecessary work, whether you're willing to pay for it or not.
I don't know if Ford still does that but for a long time your first oil filter was different than any oil filter you could buy off a shelf too.
Really they are covering their buts for warranty when they write stuff in the book, especially for the first few oil changes.
