Anyone try an 89-94 cam in a 95-11 head with the higher ratio rockers? It’s supposed to be a pretty “hot” set up. But how hot is hot? My truck is a street truck and I’m looking to get a bit of torque and HP but I need it in a reasonable part of the powerband. I pull a small boat, commute, and use it as a hunting fishing rig. It’s a 2.3 automatic 410 gears.

"Hot", in my book, would be anything that affects idle quality or moves the off-idle power over 1,250-1,500RPMs.
205-212* duration @ .050" advertised duration about 250-264* should be fine.
I see lifts around .420" being fine for stock springs.

Ideally (if the heads are getting rebuilt) you would use aftermarket bee-hive springs and look for .500" to .560" lift. ;)

I do technically have both cams, I have not degreed either... have a '90 roller cam in the turbo Ranger and well the '97 has the '97 cam in it... I'm far from being able to test both side by side unless I get a spare '95+ engine... I have a spare D port engine but don't know if it is roller or not...

From what I remember it wasn't simply swapping cams that made the difference, but the geometry of the followers when swapping parts between the two setups, supposedly the followers are different to go with the smaller valve stems on the '95+ head and possibly the roller in the follower moved changing the ratio if you put an older cam in with the new followers or the other way around.

For sure there are two separate part numbers as the valve stem diameter is difference after the 1994 model year. The listing doesn't give any dimensions to indicate if there is any ratio difference as far as I can tell.
