It doesn’t to me either. From what I remember in reading up on them, the axle is retained by the adapter on the end of the axle. I can’t see how a spring would keep the opposite side in place.

On the TTB D35, If I recall, the driver side doesn't have a c-clip. There is no need for it since the diff is attached to that axle beam and there is no place for the axle to move.

On the passenger side, the shaft is going to a whole different axle beam assembly that moves independently of the driver side. Hence the slip joint. That is why Dana uses the c-clip to retain the inner shaft within the differential. Installing the spring to push the opposite halves of that shaft apart eliminates the need for that c-clip. I used the weed-whacker spring mentioned in one of the articles. It's working great.

I know the D28 has a drivers side c-clip...now I'm all confused...which I normal

Passenger side shafts on both the D28 and D35 have C clips. Drivers side does not on either application.

I have also used the weed whacker spring on three trucks plus a bolt on collar I got at a local industrial place. So far, zero issues. The spring is a real pain to install but once it's on, it's on.

Ever since I put the D35 in I've been running an external spring inside the boot, been working fine... I think I'm just running a spring I found on the ground at the junkyard at random, could be a weedeater spring though... No need for any collars or anything, the bumps on the axle shaft for the boot and two small hose clamps (needed 2 to get the diameter without going to the wide hose clamps, plus two evens it out not that you're likely to notice that little weight) around the boot and I think just a zip tie on the big end of the boot... The splines are just fine, I've had the passenger beam out a couple years ago and it was all good to go, just put it back together as it was after I changed the beam needlessly (was the drivers beam that was bent)

That's way overkill, and I didn't want junk getting in the splines. I was skeptical when I just put the spring in the boot but it hasn't moved...

I did the same thing, but put the clamp inside the boot. It was a pain to install the first time. Had to use long bolts to get the spindle pulled up over the outer shaft.

Been running for 8? years now.

Same here, but I used a clamp to hold the spring.
