Just remember to put a 2.3 in it.

Yup the 1992 version just mine will be an extended cab. Already have a 1997 2.3L engine lined up...

Back in those days I worked for CART and the SCCA Sport Truck series
was one of the "support races" that followed us around...

I was also an SCCA member and the holy writ from denver was that
"the fans want this racing series", but from all the talking I've done with
SCCA members in the 18years since I never met one that thought that
racing series was anything other than a joke and an example that the
people in the ivory tower in denver were huffing their own farts.

The only people who WANTED the racing series were the manufacturers.

If Denver wanted to do what the membership wanted then we'd
have an IT class for the retired showroom stock turbocharged cars.

AND I'd be running one.

I have difficulty understanding why you'd want to memorialize a racing series
that is the poster child for them fact that the manangement of the SCCA is
completely out of touch with the membership, arbitrary and autocratic and
frankly only interested in lining their own pockets.

SCCA management is the only group of people I would exclude from
a list of people who could be used to replace congress to reduce corruption.

I don't see why it was a Joke. likely the lack of participants was a big factor in that. Like any form of racing there is always a grass roots league that needs to start somewhere, weather it be a joke or not.

I just think it would be cool to build something simple and take it out to the autocross and flog the pee out of it. Not to be competative but to have fun and own something different.

Nope not going that scheme. I like the yellow/white/black combo.

MUCH better color scheme, even if it lacks in the fantastic stroh's-ness

Should be fairly simple. Just need to get the engine installed, Explorer 8.8 with 3.73's and trac-loc installed with a stiffer swaybar. Beef the front swaybar up and give it a 2/2 drop.

DAYUM!!! I finally found a use for a Nancy Pelosi quote:

Not Grass roots, but astroturf.

THAT is my point there was NEVER any grass roots support for
the series until long after the series was "Dead and gone"

The "grass roots support" was a couple marketing people
at Ford, Chevrolet & Jeep with the connivance of the
cynical greedy bastards in denver.

It was from beginning to end a marketing ploy.

NOT that there is a single thing wrong with a marketing ploy
The problem is that everyone at the time LIED and claimed it
was a series the "fans" wanted.

THE problem was that the MFG's were through the SCCA trying
to play to the WRONG CROWD.

NASCAR was a much better audience....

But it was never a case of the "fans" wanted it.

Grass roots don't exsist until someone tills the ground
and plants the seed. and even then grass won't grow
in bad soil. The SCCA fanbase wasn't it.

If you want one great, whatever floats your boat.
I'm just trying to stop and revisionist history or "spin"
about the reality of that ill fated and misconceived racing series.

Failed marketing was likely the demise. I'm not trying to bring the ITT series back to life even though I think it would be hella fun. They are trying to revive the series in Atlanta from what I read. Hardly call it a series when there are only 3 or 4 trucks in it. Kinda like the special olympics, no matter how bad you do you still get a trophy.

I just think the styling is clean and simple. I have nearly all the parts to put a truck together and then go flog the pee out of it. All in good fun, plus it will be road legal, as I have the title for the 92 truck.
