My wife was driving my truck and did not get the oil changed. She soon started hearing a loud ticking sound and now it wont move out of the driveway. I was told that i need a new engine. wondering how hard it would be to put in myself with the help of a friendly mechanic.any help would be appreciated.

well before you just go and put a new engine in, a second opinion would be a good idea.

was the engine run out of oil or really really low?

it wont move out of the driveway, as in it wont even start or it starts and stalls when you put it into gear?

more details please

are you mechanically inclined? what experiance do you have working on cars?

I tend to agree. Engine failures bad enough to make it not move tend to involve broken crankshafts, or engine internals lying on the driveway. MUCH more than just ticking.

There are a LOT of more minor problems that could cause this. As well as problems outside the engine (for instance, a broken flexplate).
