Backstory. My '93 was getting pretty beat up and I was getting tired of fixing the TTB suspension every trip I went out. The motor was getting tired and the trans was an A4LD with an electric t-case.

I scored a great deal on a '97 2wd for $300. No rust, one small dent in the cab roof, a 4.0L (with cracked heads) and a great frame. I also picked up a 4R55E out of an explorer for free which I will rebuild. I already have a 1354M I rebuilt a couple months ago ready to go in.

Plans are:

Remove front and rear of frame and replace with 2x6 tubing 3/16" thick and box the rest of the frame in.

Custom motor mounts.

Profender coil overs up front, leaf spring rear

Flat bed ( I know, I know )

2161A RCI fuel cell

The cab is sitting on 4x4's for the mean time

8 bolt crank

In on the 1st page. Since you now have a 97, you should go ahead and do the V8, 99% bolt in. Read SVT's build thread, first post for all the info. Only thing I'm changing is the motor mount plates, which I custom make now, and gives you infinite adjustability without drilling the engine crossmember to swiss cheese...

I may have a set of 95TM heads before too long. I want to get a set of Stage 3 heads from Morana, so assuming my current heads are not cracked Ill sell them. Ill get them inspected when I pull them.

I don't ever remember seeing a 4.0L auto Rwd ranger before this one. The thing was definitely peppy.

Picked up a ProTool bender today for $350. Came with a 1.25" die. Still need to buy a 1.75" die. Still a great price though.
