As a project I picked up a 1984 F150 XL for peanuts. Out of respect for the PO I'm not posting what I paid (not much, I'll say that)

Since I'm at work and lazy at moment, I'll drop a link to my public post on it with pics and info here:

Look like a fun project?

BTW this isn't a replacement for my 1995 Ranger. Heck no. She's still my Daily... and I still love her. :D

My credo
A legend to the old man, a hero to the child...
Looks like a solid old truck. That AOD would make me slightly nervous but you cant go wrong with a 300.

I thought the AOD was one of the better ones? Better than the A4LD (reliability wise)?

I've never driven stick personally (go figure) so driving such home wasn't an option... it's also what I happened to find. One of these days I'll get a 5 speed... but not today.

Round.
My credo
I poop in the furnace.
The AOD is stronger than the a4ld but weaker than the c4 and no where close to a c6.

the grey-t escape
looks nice, hard to beat a 300. If the aod goes bad, Id put a C6 in there, if youre going to have a automatic, that seems to be a good one. personally im a fan of the creeper 1st 4-speed behind the 300. If you can get/keep traction-it will pull. with that combination and 3.73’s it will top out at about 70 mph.

I didn't think I needed a C6 for a 300 (overkill?). It also only has 3.16 gears (limited slip according to the tag code), so it's not a good candidate to tow with (other than really light trailers?). It's more of a highway loot hauling truck. In a way it's redundant since my 95 Ranger is more or less the same setup (4.0 with 3.08 gears and a long bed, use it to haul stuff in the camper shell and for long trips)... but the main goal here is to restore it to operating condition, with a handful of minor mods and swaps (mostly interior stuff, I.E. the radio and speakers). Unlike the ranger I won't be putting a shell on it (no sliding rear window).... but otherwise it's just an older and bigger version of what I already have.

If I wanted to tow I'd save up and get a beater F250 or the like... not this. Maybe eventually... but not now.
