The only thing that one has going for it is the hard drive size, the video card, and the RAM included.

I don't like nor have I had good experiences with Asus parts or whole units.

Let us know how it is.

Well, that's good to hear that Asus is bad. lol We'll see. I almost went with a Sony, they have a good fit and finish, but this one seemed like a pretty good deal.

I've had to deal with an Averatec for three years so I find it hard that this could be any worse.

This might be an apples/oranges comparison, but my Asus EEE PC is rock solid. Very sturdy and reliable.
It seems like a good laptop. Price is a little steep for the features. I don't see why it's a grand, but the CPU and NVIDIA graphics card are probably what pushes the price up. The HDD is big and fast and 4GB of RAM is nice, but you could buy a similar HDD and RAM separately for a little over $100. You'll like the speed of the HDD, though. I got a Western Digital Scorpio Black 320 GB 7200 RPM and I love it, it's very fast. Eats a little extra battery though. The resolution is a little low for a screen that size, and my 9" netbook has 3 USB - there's no reason why any full size laptop shouldn't have 4. 6- cell battery should have good life.
I think you'll be happy with it, it's definitely a big upgrade from your old one.

It wasn't an amazing deal but still, I got my old laptop for $900 3 years ago, though it's sort of small with a 12 inch screen. You're right about the proc and the video card pushing the price up. And yeah the resolution is somewhat low but I won't mind. I looked around and really couldn't find any deals at the time that were better, so yeah...but I know I'll be happy with it. And it seems most laptops that I've seen only have 3 USB ports, I would think they would have at least 4. It's funny, I believe my sister's Toshiba has either 4 or 5 USB ports yet it was $400 and then my mother's $500 Toshiba only has 3. Like what the heck? lol

My new Dell Latitude E5500 had 4 USB ports, a 9 pin serial port, a VGA port, a ethernet port, a phone/fax port, a S-Video port, a 1394 port, a head set port, and a mic port on it.

Well, it's a business laptop, and the only thing I am missing is the serial port and one USB port.

that still seems expensive for an Asus...

I agree. It does seem that they have been jacking up their prices here lately.

I think I'll keep mine. I got it today and I love it. Plus mine was new and it has a better proc and video card. It even has a built in air ionizer, nothing can beat that. :D

Air ionizer? I guess if you're stuffed into an airplane or bus seat with a crowd of stinky people around you it would be handy if you could ionize them all...:icon_rofl:

Haha, that's funny because on Wednesday I'm going to flying to Oregon so I'll have to test it out.

Make sure to turn off the "Vaporize" option before turning it on...:)

Yeah, I gotta be careful with that. Someone could lose an eye, or a wiener.
