I didn't ask for your life story, just answer the question!
I have the mini-doctor 2... it’s one of the greatest tools I own.
I work the county government. I brought it in to work once, that’s all it took. They ordered 6 of them, one for each one of the garages.

I was blown away the first time I saw one being used! it was one of those "gotta get one of those!" moments! Using torches close to gasoline has always been one of my greatest fears working on old trucks and cars, that alone would make it worthwhile!

I'm thinking of the infamous y-pipe to manifold bolrs specifically,

Aren't these basically just a heating element? I saw some where you at can actually make different shapes and sizes by re bending the element?

No exactly. They are inductive heaters. Long story short... They send power through the coil to create a magnetic field, that magnetic field will heat ferrous metals.
Yes, some of the coils are bendable, some are available flexible so you can wrap them around the middle of a pipe.

These are totally worth it.

I don't have one, but I am planning to get one. It would have made last weekend a lot less dicey when I was torching trans cross-member bolts out of the Explorer.

they work at a very high frequency.
anytime a current passes near a magnetic part it induces a magnetic field in the part.
turn that current on-off at a high rate and the resultant shaking of the "magnetic stuff" inside the part
causes it to heat up quite rapidly. (didn't know magnetism had friction did 'ya?)

larger units have been used in industry for almost a century to induction-harden parts.

Forgot to ask the question that's been laying on my mind a bit.

will one of these inductive heaters be able to get up at the manifold crossover pipe bolts?(before I go and buy one? )

and I probably should put this question on the transmission section. Pull the engine and leave the M5od in place? (seems to make sense, it's a 4.0)

Thank you!

The one I have... The mini-ductor can get in some tight spots. I can’t speak for any other models.

Are you sure? I figured it would be a great way to sterilize your fingers. Insert one finger at at time and hold for 45 seconds and bang no more virus on the fingers.

I so want one of these but for me the cost is prohibitive to make it a reality.

Sorry, Cedars-Sini says the most efficient way is to swallow a tanning bulb.
