Bii always running cold

I have a 90 Bii that never goes above the "o" on normal. The ECT and temp switch to gauge have been replaced, the latter i assume is what fixed the old issue of having no gauge reading at all. There is a 180 thermostat installed which I know would make it run cooler but idk about that much cooler. Also, the mechanical fan is always running it seems(bad clutch?). Shouldn't this kick on after it heats up a bit or is it always supposed to run? Thank You for any help!

That position of the gauge is about what I would expect. Especially with the 180* thermostat. The mechanical fan does always turn. It just slows down when it cools.

Then nothing sounds unusual from your description. You could consider swapping the 180 for the stock thermostat.

My 87 2.9 runs just under half with a 185 stat. I wouldnt worry. With a 2.9 youre better being a bit cool then a bit hot

I'm gonna do that. I was thinking of that since my gas mileage is terrible and I'm not getting much of a powerboost from a 180 anyhow. I'm also, pretty certain that my speed control servo and or climate control res may have a leak so that could be th my power issue. I'm gonna plug the tree for each of those one at a time and see if it runs better. I may honestly do a full vac hose replacement seeing as they are 33 years old minus what I've already replaced. Hopefully it's just a line and not a reservoir, servo or brake booster or I'm gonna be having a good ol "replace it all day".

My temp gauge always reads way below normal. Sender replaced with a new one, then it read 0. Once the gauge went to the middle, as in 'Normal', and the engine overheated. Point being the gauge is bad and it could be your issue as well.

A lower temperature thermostat will provide LESS power and efficiency than a hotter one.
