Bigger alternators and alternatives to custom, high amperage units?

I'm currently running a custom built 200A large case 3G alternator, it works reasonably well but I was wondering if anyone has any experience with any off the shelf units with a similar output. My reason for asking is because my alternator guy isn't getting any younger and I don't want to pay unreasonably high prices for something custom that could be had from a parts store for far less.

Some searching has shown that in the mid 90s a 215A Mitsubishi unit was used on ambulance prepped E350 vans with the 7.3. It looks large but I don't believe space to be an issue for me. It also looks to use the same regulator plug as the 3g. Thoughts on other alternatives?

My credo
it is easier to fix and understand than "her"
the ambulance alternators tend to be the best.

power master has been letting me down lately. starters and alternators.

Those were my thoughts as well, one would hope they'd be a bit more robust.

I've been having issues with failing regulators becoming common and my alternator guy has expressed frustration at the parts quality not being anywhere near what it once was.

The one I'm looking at is item number R110542B at oreilly if you're curious
