This looks like the last 8 of a VIN. Can anyone search a partial VIN? So it seems as though he's getting it from Utah. Diesel brothers are out that way. Maybe you are getting a 6 door ranger lifted 13' (can still fit under most bridges) and a turbo diesel to boot?

From Utah?

All the rangers here are garbage, save for mine. What exactly are you planning here?

Unless Jim typed the number of numerals at the end is incorrect. If should be 6, not 5.

Lets assume he did typo something, and it should have read KLA000272.

K is a checksum and means nothing to us.

L maps to the model year, and corresponds to either 1990 or 2020. The 20s haven't been released yet, even in Utah.

A is allegedly an assembly plant ID, and A would indicate Hapeville Georgia (Atlanta plant), which built passenger cars but closed in 2006.

Cars built at the Atlanta plant in the year in question were the Taurus and Sable.

I'm going to guess he is getting a SHO.

I can't remember exactly how engineering fleet numbers work.... but I believe the rules for VIN decoding don't necessarily apply.

I just hope it's gonna be the 272nd new Bronco to roll off the line as part of a captured test fleet. Afterall... it's about time Ford starts building some interest/hype in the new 2020 Bronco.

I have owned 3 original Bronco"s (68, 73 and 76) in my youth.... All my eggs for a new Ford vehicle purchase rest in the new Bronco egg basket.

All my eggs have hatched.

Given the current state of the industry I don't think I want to own anything much newer than 2010 or so. I'd take an Escape out to 12, an F150 out to 14, but I probably won't ever go past that generation again if I can avoid it.

Possibly, but the LAXXXXXX format is consistent with a 1990 Taurus.

I'm still not convinced though, as the number Jim gave only had 5 numeral places, and even if it is a SHO, the acquisition of a gen 1 Taurus hardly seems announcement worthy.

Unless you are into Taurii as much as some people are into RBV's.
