best jack for my ranger?

hello, I do not have a jack for my 2000 ranger. Can anyone advise my best option for travel use. Something I can put behind the seat. My instinct tells me a bottle jack and some wooden 4 x 4 pieces. thanks for a reply

nothing wrong with the factory screw jack. their biggest advantage is you don't have to crawl under the truck to use them, provided you have the long handle, which you will need to lower the spare.

I've never needed a 4x4, but a piece of plywood on soft ground works fine.

stock suspension I presume?

What PJ said. but theres many options out there. depends how much money you wanna and space you wanna spend. The screw jack HF sells is exactly the same as the factory one for my F150. They have decent bottle jack options as well. If you wanna go big, get a Hi-Lift. Jack on! (or off)

I have a cheap-o aluminum 1 ton hydraulic jack I picked up at O'Reillys in the back seat. Only because the previous owner had got rid of the factory jack.

Nothing wrong with the oem screw jacks for changing a tire, however a bigger floor jack certainly can have its advantages.

Just bought a 5000Lb rated Screw\ScissorJack $40 from HarborFreight; they also had the $30 smaller 3000Lb simular to Fords.
Had to slightly modify the 5000Lb jacks top brackets\plates; basicly turn them around inboard instead of outboard.
The 3000Lb rated Screw\ScissorJack that came with the Edge, just wasn't stout enough for comfort,
especially if needing to raise both front wheels with full engine weight on the jack.
I'll leave the old 3000Lb ScissorJack with the SpareTire in the Edge for emergency road use, raising one corner to change a flat,
& keep the new 5000Lb ScissorJack in the ToolBox in the ExSportTrac for use with both vehicles as needed in the garage.
I've never liked the undersized BottleJack that came with the ExSportTrac.
A heavy duty commercial pump\floor jack would be great, but I'm too cheap to spend $200+ for what I'd like.

PS: Always, always use jackstands before crawling under any vehicle.

thanks for the feedback on the question. I do have stock suspension to answer the one question brought up.
I think I will get a screw jack because I do have the long handle that came with the truck.
I have to be honest, I am wondering where the heck the screw jack is placed? my guess is the on the frame near the front door hinge or in front of the leaf springs for the rear. I will have to experiment with it. This is why I mentioned 4 x 4s to get some height.
I like the good hydraulic jack that has the extension on it in the picture sent.

I've considered picking up an aluminum floor jack from Harbor Freight... they go on sale for $60 I believe.

the rear jack goes under the axle tube.
the front of my 2000 has a small tab on the front of the lower control arms for the jack.

the frames are way too high for factory style screw jacks.

A 4x4 block of wood also helps with height issues....
