The reason I ask is because my main hunting rifle is chambered .308 Win. After shooting my friends AR-15 (.223 Rem) I've been day dreaming, and figured it would be nice to have an AR chambered the same. I have been doing some research, well more like reading. Just wondering what you all think on the subject.

Go 7.62 x 72! Its amazing. as far as getting it in ar form... I wouldn't, they aren't really good weapons. They're prone to double feed and failure to extract.

Say what? I have an AR15 and have never had a FTE or FTF. Several of my friends have AR10 and AR15 rifles and never have a problem with them.

Rock River

Rock River Arsenal makes several models. I am considering one. You can get them under $1,000.

I believe they are located at one of the old Rock Island Arsenal buildings, in Rock Island, IL.

You might want to look into a Galil or a FN FAL too. If I lived in a free state a Galil in 7.62 would be high on my list.

The 7.62 AR's are nice but a bit pricey. I like the HK-91's and clones including the CETME's. The FN's and their clones are nice as well. Neither is as light as the AR but they will fire in a mud puddle without complaint where the AR might have issues. If you run out of ammo with the AR, it becomes a mighty fine whiffle bat. You run out of ammo with either of the others and you wouldn't think twice about beating in the windshield of a truck with them.

When you start putting several hundreds of rounds through them a day you'll see what i'm talking about.
