Well I found out how to not remove the old u joints on my front axles. I cut the clips off my drivers side front axle u joint. I tried to use a ball joint press. I used a 30 mm socket and a small socket to push it apart. I bent the crap out of the ear for the u joint on front inner shaft. Anybody have one around or know where to get one?? I found one at bronco graveyard. I think it was 89 dollars without shipping. :bawling:

My credo
If you're not making mistakes, you're not learning.
Unfortunately most go right into the dumpster. Though you may get lucky and someone sees the thread and still has one kicking around.

The consensus around here is that if you encounter any problems with the D28, toss it and grab 1995-1997 TTB beams. Direct swap, MUCH better brakes, and stronger in every way. Also parts are easier to find.

I plan on doing that at a later time. I am working with what I have at the time.

As a temp fix try bending it back and do a couple tack-welds to hold the cap from sitting cock-eyed.

I pulled another one at pick and pull. I blasted the ball joints and axles with pb blaster. I will let them soak for a few days. Now I need to figure out how to pull the axle out of the dif. I am replacing the seals while it is out.

My credo
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
I think it's like the d35. Driver side will slide out of the diff. Not sure if oil will run out the hole or not. But I think it will. If I was doing that, I would put a pan under it. Top off the diff when you're finished. Clean all dirt and debris out of the area before pulling the shaft so nothing falls into the diff.

Passenger side is retained by a c-clip.

I have the diff sitting on my bench. I I looked in it with a light and saw the e clip that holds it on. Need to pull the yoke off and replace the pinion seal. I have the seals for the axle shaft bores.
