I have a headache rack that sits slightly above the roof line so I can lean stuff on it and hang it over the cab. I want to make a removable gate to cover the middle section too, plus add some tie down points.

I also have a wood frame that sits in the back stake pockets if I need to carry something long and not have it sit in the bed. ( like a canoe).

I have a job box in the back most of time too. Not bolted in, just strapped down, pretty easy to take out if I need the whole bed for some jobs.

I got super lucky finding this thing. Almost impossible to find a ranger sized rack that’s built for the truck (welded and not universal). This rack is made of aluminum extrusions that bolt together. Kind of a hybrid veh-specific/universal rack. The ratchet straps are a $500 option on the site. The racks are $1000 to $1500 depending on size. I jumped on it for $300. Plus it’s aluminum!

I have kicked around the idea of building a rack for a Ranger a few times, just never actually did. My aluminum cap has racks on it and if I really need a rack, I have my F-150 and F-350. The rack on the 350 is made out of 1/4” wall 2x2 and 2x4. The rack on the 150 is significantly lighter, but still will take a good load.
