He started it...I was going 100kph down the highway. I hit him and then ran over his head and neck (said the witness). The bear stumbled for a few minutes but then walked off into the bushes.

How does the damage look to y'all? I drove it home and I am not sure if they would write it off - I have put alot of time and money in this truck.

The truck has 225k kms and is in good condition for the age - it is rare to find a vehicle from the 2000s that isnt a rust bucket now..

Passenger fender, bumper/valence panel and side marker light. Get an estimate. Here in Indiana that is about 120 bucks worth of parts and a weekend to get them from the junkyard and install them. Painting the fender will cost more than the parts

Thanks AJ. I will have to check tomorrow but is the piece under the headlight/sidemarker connected to the rad support, or are they two pieces? The lights are punched in and their mounts are broken - I should have posted another angle as you only can see one direction here.

I am planning on moving across the province at the end of Nov so I dont have much time to fix it myself - just wanting to seek all options at this point. Used trucks are very expensive right now so I am not sure the insurance company would write it off so soon....maybe I am wrong.

My credo
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
Looks fixable. But with a truck that old, insurance companies sometimes get funny ideas.

Doesn't look too bad. But yeah, I'd say get junkyard parts and fix it yourself if you can. Maybe just pay a body shop to paint it.

My deductible is $300 so if I can get parts for that I can do the repair myself as it is fairly straightforward.

I have been searching on car-part.com and it is hard to find b4000 body parts!! Rangers are dime a dozen it seems. Would it be crazy to swap a ranger front end body on? Bumper/fenders/hood/grille/lights?

Bud of mine, who has since passed away, did that on a newer one. He got a good deal on a totaled late-model Mazda, 2002 I think, at the auction and put a Ranger front end on it. Unless you knew what you were looking at, you couldn't hardly tell the difference. Still had the "Dual Sport" decals on the bed, Mazda's version of the Edge.

What is a fair price for everything off the front of a ranger?

It's dead to them.

Pretty much anything on a truck that age is going to be a total loss unless you have special insurance.

I would still contact the insurance company and see what they would do, you can always refuse I think (don't quote me...)

My '97 got rearended a few months ago and conveniently only hit the tailgate and the insurance company deposited like $560 into my bank account instead of having a shop do it... but then again I wasn't at fault so I didn't have to pay a deductible

The way the price of these trucks is going up now a days, you might have a good chance of them cutting you a check.

vmrcanada.com lists my Mazda at 6850 clean and 9650 for excellent condition. I think a year or two ago it was 6000 for excellent.
