Backing plate for 10" rear brakes... any ideas?

Hey all... recently the passenger rear wheel on my '98 2WD SuperCab had an unfortunate run-in with a curb. The impact destroyed the wheel and bent the axle shaft and brake backing plate slightly. It's a 7.5" LS axle with the bigger 10" brake drums (not 9"). Now, I have all the new parts lined up *except* that backing plate, because of course out of all the possibilities, only the 10" right rear one -- F57Z-2211-A, the one I need -- is the one they discontinued. 9" ones are plentiful, and you can still get the 10" driver's side one, ffs.

So I guess two questions: does anyone have any suggestions for finding one aside from driving to every wrecking yard in Western Washington on the chance there's one I can pull? (which, seeing as how you have to pull an axle shaft to get it off, sounds like a nightmare.)

Or, has anyone had any luck straightening a bent backing plate? FWIW I believe it's bent/warped at the mounting pad where it bolts onto the axle tube flange.

Thanks in advance!

(Edit: also posting this in Parts/Vehicles Wanted.)

I'd be awful tempted to try and straighten it... leave attached and beat it with a hammer till you get it back to where it needs to be. You could use your new shaft and a new drum for reference - slip the drum onto the shaft and inspect the distance between the backing plate and the drum.

Otherwise you may have to find it at a junkyard.

Being that it’s stamped part, I’m not sure if you can beat it back into proper shape or not. At this point, what do you have to lose? You’ll either fix it or will have to replace it anyway.

@sgtsandman I guess the question isn't really *whether I should* try to fix it -- that's a given, obviously there's little to lose. The question really is "has anyone here had success in straightening a warped backing plate, and if so, how did you do it?" Hoping to avoid messing it up worse, haha.

@ThatOneGuy as awesome as that sounds - and it does, I despise drum brakes - it isn't really a good time for any of this! It's my primary vehicle and my work vehicle, so I pretty much just want to get it driving ASAP with as few complications as possible.

Well I know how that is if you would like I could probably be convinced to part with one of my 7.5s not ls but whole and functional.

@pjtoledo yes indeed... I was sure to mention the cross-posting, see the top post above. Wasn't sure if I'd end up with a repair thread, or a parts-sourcing thread! Hopefully I didn't break too many rules, apologies if I did!

@ThatOneGuy I see your location says south sound, which town are you in? Do any of those 7.5s have 10" brakes? :D

No one has that I know of but doesn’t mean no one has.

The best approach would be to remove the back plate and try to straighten it off the vehicle. Depending on how it’s bent, it might be an easy fix or it may not. But it will be a heck of a lot easier off the vehicle than on.

I would rather try to straighten it on the vehicle. Reason being, it's held in place with the axle flange... You won't have to try and clamp it in a vise or something. And you can slip the drum on and off as needed.
