Ok, I am not a REAL Ford Ranger but still have Ford stickers that make it almost identical.
In 1985 we started building a house and my father had a Toyota pickup but it was coming 2.5 hours from Connecticut.
Later he was driving since new, a 1985 F150 20 miles each way to our family owned daycare as night cleaner.
We paid for his gas until he no longer needed the capacity of the automatic 6 cylinder 8 foot bed and got him a stripped 2002 Mazda 4 cyl 6 foot 2 wd.
It got 28-30 mpg instead of 15-18 as F150 did.
He had factory cruise control added as the only thing he missed.
We added a Undercover rigid lid for factory lined pick up bed to keep out snow.
In 2007 it was inherited by me.
Now garaged and driven almost daily since then.
Now in 2019 I spent half it's original purchase price of $10k to get all the wear and tear repaired.
New tires, then brake lines, front discs, rear drums and brake cylinders , suspension all four corners, clutch and slave, intake manifold relay, radiator and thermostat, replaced broken
tail lights with 1997 salvaged with yellow LED bulbs, radio with Dual DVD from Walmart including new 4 way speakers in doors.
MPG is back to 28 with no noticeable noise from engine or exhaust age.
I figure $100 a month average repair over 17 years of owning is not a bad investment so decided to reveal myself to others that have a real Ranger.
Would love to see hybrid Ranger appear in the next few years to beat the 28 mpg by double !
