Hoping this is the right place to post this but I found a 93 f150 with the 5 speed for my 302 swap and a d44 solid axle. I was planing on just doing a knuckle swap but since it's not the ttb version I might as well swap it in. So I was wondering about axle width and if I should leave it a bit longer than I need or narrow it to fit under my ranger. I'm also planning on swapping the rear 8.8 for a 9 eventually.

My credo
it is easier to fix and understand than "her"
I prefer full width.

When you custom cut them you can do it to fit shelf replacment axles with some work...alot of work.

There are several styles of d44, which would dictate best way to go.

How was the swap performed on the donor 150?

Stock style radius arms or custom ?

Keep your mind like an umbrella, it only works if its open... Continually learning.
I'm not a big fan on full-size axles on little trucks. There's is nothing wrong with installing them though. I don't have the exact dimensions but the Ranger axle is about 60" WMS to WMS and full size are about 66" WMS to WMS. So about 3" extra on each side.

Wasn't ever planning on a full 44 in the front just a knuckle swap but a buddy of mine wants my 35 ttb for his bronco and this is a solid 44 so I figured why not. And as for the rear end I've got way to many 9 inch rear ends idk what to do with them all

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.

I didn't ask for your life story, just answer the question!
FYI...
Stock for stock, a 31 spline 8.8 is stronger than most factory 9” rears. If you plan on aftermarket axles and an upgraded carrier, than the 9” is a better foundation.

So the guy didn't know what the front axle was and when I got the truck found out is was a d44 ttb. Kinda disappointed but if the 44ttb can fot and will work full width on the ranger ill swap it just because I already had a guy planing on buying my 35ttb

The d44 ttb can be used. It is wider than d35 ttb. Some people narrow them and some leave them wide. Either way will require some fabrication. I think there is info on that in the tech library.

Yeah, although I have now been looking and I see a d44 high pinion for $300 and another one guys calls it spicer 44. It's a high pinion and a ford axle $100 for that one so I might make a d35/44 ttb hybrid and sell that then get either of these 44 axles and swap it in.
