Attention mods.. Feel free to make this a sticky if no one has covered it. I searched for it in the past on here and didn't find anything about it.
When replacing your axle seals (with aftermarket parts) on the 8.8 axle, you must use the axle shaft seal meant for the 7.5 axle. This is part # 8660S.
The original, Ford seal presses into the axle tube end and has a lip that goes over the edge face of the tube.
Unless your axle tubes have a tapered (chamfered) end, you CANNOT use the aftermarket seal (part # 8835S), which is listed for the 8.8 axle. This seal is the same outside diameter (O.D.) of the standard 8.8 axle tube. On my 2001 Edge 4x4, the tube end is not chamfered.
If anyone has any further questions, you can PM me.
Hope that helps some folks out.
