What is considered normal mpg for the 3.0 4x4 with an auto (unknown mileage, but gotta be over 120,000))? Thanks!

Then I have a little room for improvement. Might need to put a stronger return spring on throttle too, I can barely fell any pedal resistance, so I tend to launch her sometimes...

3.0 with auto trans is the worst gas mileage combo ford made for rangers in my opinion. I have a 99 3.0 2wd with auto trans and I'm lucky to get 15-16 mpg. Maybe 17-18 if I'm on the highway. Being 4wd it should be worse than a 2wd. That's my input.

Before electric fan was getting consistent 18+ to 20 (usually 19), easy driving on paved country roads. With e-fan I'm getting 20 - 21.

17-20mpg is most common:

But that's including 2WD trucks and manual transmission trucks. The Auto/4wd combo is going to be near the bottom of that bell curve.

For your lack of throttle response, the throttle cable is likely stretched out. Search for the "zip tie mod" for a cheap, easy fix.

Zip tie mod is easy and it works good. I have a few of the small zip ties on mine and it felt like the truck got a good tune up when in all reality it is just getting the correct amount of throttle whereas before when you put the gas pedal to the floor it would be about 3/4 open at the throttle instead of full throttle. Takes about 2 minutes to put some zip ties on to get correct throttle response.

I write down my mileage every fill-up, and figure it every next one, it does a lot to show active or pending problems.
Or you can just keep track of gallons added between fills.
First step though is to check the odometer agin the mile markers on a good stretch of interstate
