Autozone free (random) upgrade on brakes? Anyone else get this?

My Escape's brakes have been making some racket for a week or two, so I replaced them today. I originally bought the cheaper Durlast pads, which were not so great and didn't last very long. I flirted with upgrading to the Duralast Gold pads, but decided this will be the last time I'm putting pads on it (going to get a bigger vehicle) and it wasn't worth the money ($25 vs. $60).

Anyway.... I noticed the shims on the back said Duralast Gold when I was putting them in. I figured the factory had run out of one shim, and used the other. Well, as I was cleaning up I noticed a piece of paper in the bottom of the box. It said I had gotten a random "upgrade" on the pads. Anyone else see this before?

i haven't ever seen that and i've used alot of cheapie duralasts on used cars. enjoy the freebie.

I worked at autozone for over a year and never heard of that.... sounds like kids were playing games in the store haha.

You do you all autozone pads except valuecraps are lifetime warranty...

Even for wear... it was hard to explain this to people...

Keep that paper and when you go to exchange the pads after they wear out you can get free golds ! haha

I will still use their windshield washer fluid though. It works fine.

I hate their stupid plasti-chrome accessories with double stick tape. Like the "Fuel Injection", "Special Edition", and "Limited Edition" emblems.

We would not let people buy stuff unless they were doing this. I refused to sell a guy a valuecraft starter one day and he got all pissed off before I told him I was gonna override the price of the duralast witha lifetime warranty for the same price and give him 10% off....

Everyone loved me. Some days if I was having a good day we would ask stupid questions and if you got it right or made me laugh you got 10% off!
