My credo
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
Yeah, not everybody loves ATF showers, I wish mine had drain plugs. Not supposed to drop the pan anymore so much though, they wanted it flushed.

Portal windows are kinda cool though:

My best friend in high school had one of those. I think his was white. Good times.

Oh drop the pan? Anymore you can't even get to the filter without opening the case!

Go look at what has to be done to service the trans filter in that Edge your wife drives.

I was thinking the same thing... Maybe there's a reason why they don't come back. I'd be pissed if someone did that on mine too. My 8 year old could drill a hole and let the fluid drain.... A PAID mechanic should do it the right way.... Geez I really hope he was joking. When filling the oil do you just fill it till it comes out the top too? HAHA
Glad I'm not the only one.....

Wait a minute... You guys are actually against having a drain plug in the pan on an auto?!!!?
Nope. Not at all. As long as it comes that way from the factory.

If you think having a drain plug in your transmission pan is a bad thing I wouldn't work on your car anyway...

Eh maybe I would but your bill would look like this.

View attachment 32636:icon_rofl:
And I'd never pay that bill. PERIOD. In fact, that bill would result in a call to whomever licensed you as a mechanic, and the Better Business Bureau.

Factory doesn't always get it right.

Case in point I saw @ericbphoto had a bung welded into the axle beam on his truck. I really wish I had done that when the beam was out of the truck. It makes so much sense for fluid changes. Ford probably considered that "lubed for life" or something like that. A drain is a lot easier than sucking the fluid out or pulling the diff off the beam.

Licensed mechanic... Good one.
There's no license to be a mechanic in the USA... any idiot can call himself a mechanic here.

That thing is kind of a don't ask don't tell thing. The only thing that infuriates me more than how stupidly it is built is how well it holds up.

Hell, because the Air Force specializes their aircraft mechanics to specific systems, I’m not even licensed as an aircraft mechanic. I’m certified on my system with years of experience but can’t take that knowledge elsewhere in the civilian sector because I’m not licensed.

I hold 26 ASE Certs. I'm master certified in auto, med-heavy duty truck, and transit bus. I'm the top tech out of all 6 county garages. I actually trach training classes to the new hires... but I still don't have any "license" to be a mechanic.
