The air cooled ones actually are pretty neat. Neat to marvel over and look at, pretty far down on my wish list though.

My brother had a ‘68 Bug with a ‘73 Super Beetle 1600 in it. It was like a go cart, fun but not particularly fast. It did enough gumption to at least feel like it was trying though.

And back on point, there's one I miss(ed) (20+ years before I was born)

Judson Superchargers. Tinkered with a partial one. Awesome design.

After driving my sisters Malibu in Georgia for 3 weeks I realized how much I miss getting in a truck without a giant screen in the middle of the dash constantly telling me not to look at the screen while driving... then beeping because a phone isnt connected... then back to saying don't look at me! Then beeping because it found a wifi signal BUT DONT LOOK AT ME!!!!

I wanted to put a bullet in that dumbass thing. And those thoughtful designers never considered putting a damn "OFF" button on the whole damn thing so you could actually drive undistracted by its nonsense.

When you think of Toyota... Honda and Nissan do you think of this?

Air cooled VW's were pretty cool. VW and Porsche were pretty innovative back in the day, but none of the designs they came up with stood the test of time, and no one makes cars with layouts like that now. Lancia on the other hand was even more innovative, and most cars today have features copied from them.

Nothing personal. I'd rather be driving my Bug.

I despise how modern cars are designed around the idea that I'm not bright enough to put on a seat belt without my car insisting that I do (don't bother reminding me that some drivers aren't). Every time I drive my wife's car, I find myself constantly repeating things like, "Shut up, ya daffy bastard!"

Also, earlier there was the comment about plastic headlight covers vs. glass, and while I concede that glass has the advantage in the clouding column, I was reminded today that broken plastic gets my vote over broken glass as being generally less undesirable.
