I did a 302 swap about 15 years ago into my 94 Ranger. I’ve run a T5 and had fun. Now I’m old and my back, hips, knees and ankles all are hurting. I’m worn out.
So, here’s the parameters. I’m running a carb and a duraspark2, no computer. So trans shouldn’t require an ecm. I’m doing highway driving, I’d like to go 70-75 with the3.73 gears in the 8.8 rear end.
I’d like to find something there’s a million of and easy to locate at pick a part, cheaper rebuild parts, common starter.
thanks for your help.

If you don't have time to do it right will you have time to do it over?
An AOD would probably be your best choice if you're keeping the 3.73's. I used a C4 in my 93-because I had one- and put 3.00 gears in the rear to compensate for no overdrive. I don't remember what year the AOD turned into the PCM controlled AODE. Every Crown Vic had an AOD for years, along with T Birds and Mustangs so one shouldn't be hard to find. I'd hesitate to install any used transmission that old without rebuilding it, though.
A Center Force Gold clutch has a pretty light pedal pressure, if you decide to keep the T5.

it is easier to fix and understand than "her"
i love the AOD. pretty easy to build. run 3/4 cutback elimination mod and the 4r70 gearset, 2 inch band and big diode sprag and they are very reliable to 400 hp.

not overly easy to source parts these days but doable.

the 4r70 is great.

the 6r80 is awesome.
