My credo
Lord God is my guardian
I am rethinking of getting a 5spd in my next ranger. With the soreness I have in both shoulders, considered getting a auto instead...wanna stay with a 3.0. Still looking at 93-97 rangers. I have seen quite a few 3.0 rangers of those years with autos as I have looked in my area. This will be for m daily driver, and keep my 94 3.0 5spd for weekend drives etc. I drove a 3.0 auto a few times in the past and it was sorta gutless, but doable.

I am aware that the 93-94 autos were ok, yet junk...not sure about 95-97. Can someone define if autos from those years are bad or good?

Any assistance is appreciated.

My credo
If you don't have time to do it right will you have time to do it over?
We never had much trouble with Ranger automatics and we sold a bunch of them. Pull the dipstick, if the fluid is real dark and smells burnt it may not last long.

Not sure what year ended the A4LD and moved to the 4R and 5R trans, which are based off the A4LD. As long as the fluid looks good and doesn’t smell burnt, you should be ok. I would add an extra cooler in and do a shift kit and mods, makes a world of difference in how they perform
