The Auto Stop thing really doesn't bother me too much so I'll just leave it alone. For those of you who absolutely hate it, this might be the solution you were looking for.

Some people hate it that much that they would be willing to do it. Another turn off for me is the amount of disassembly you have to do just to plug the thing in. $100 plus maybe an hour of your time. Too expensive to me.

Eh... when I drive the edge it's just part of the procedure. Start button, parking brake, auto stop button, drive...

If the little button to turn it off didn't exist like in my sisters malibu, then I would see spending the money to disable it. I hate that thing.

To cancel it if it engages, just lift your foot off the brake pedal a little. The engine comes back on. It also seems that if you vary your pedal pressure while braking in order to make a smooth stop, it never even engages the shutoff feature. YMMV

The Disable button is quite large and placed in a very convenient location. It easy to add a simple button press at my startup process. I'll just leave it as is. I had a new '17 F150 and the folks on the big F150 forum pounded this feature to death. Forscan is easy if you must. But I refuse to tinker with it on the Ranger. I'm sure theres many features I could change or Modify, but why? I would be interested in seeing a Forscan Document on the Ranger options, but thats far as I would go

This was my point. They make it easy to turn off when you start the truck so it's really not a big deal unlike other vehicles where theres no button.

Most people I know just drive in Sport mode to eliminate it but I can't say the auto stop start bothers me. I've had it before is small rental cars and the second the car stops it gets too hot or too cold. The Ranger seems to be able to maintain temps well and the thing is so quiet and smooth I can't ever tell if it's on or off anyway

On the edge is horrible. It turns off/on while you're still rolling so there's a physical clunky feeling to it.

Sometimes there's a bit of a clunk but usually the music is too loud. the only trick is letting up on brake a second or two before you want to go so it can start and provide power. Most the time I move my foot enough on the brake at a stop to cause the truck to turn back on anyways.

If you don't have time to do it right will you have time to do it over?
My concern with stop/start has always been starter wear. If the goal is to minimize idle time to save fuel and reduce emissions I'd rather see every stop light equipped with an electric eye so no vehicles are stopped unless there is cross traffic waiting.

I hate the whole concept. It does work on a mass scale but puts a burden on the individual owner. There was a study/article about it and in order for the individual owner to just break even with fuel saving vs the increase maintenance cost the system needs to turn the car off for a minimum of 15 minutes a day every day for 5 years where it would otherwise be idling...

The batteries are the main problem, they are much more expensive than a typical car battery.

I dont know about you but the only time I sit idling that long is when I need heat or AC and then the system is useless anyway.

The new ranger I looked at had an AGM battery, ouch.

I use AGM deep cycles for my boat. They cost about 600 bucks a pop every 6-8 years. ?

Sensors would cost the government money and result in raised taxes and it also means they would have to do more work. Heck, they usually refuse to synchronize the lights on the main roads so there is less fuel usage because of the cost. Either way, we are paying for it. Whether it's through taxes or increased vehicle complexity and parts cost.

Me personally, I don't like start/stop but, at least in the Ranger, it's transparent enough not to be worth my time shutting the system off every time or installing a device to defeat it. I just let it be.
