I'm in the middle of replacing the brakes on my 1994 4.0 Ranger with a Dana35 and auto 4x4. I've noticed the O-ring on the hub body is compressed and is not providing any seal, I can't find an O-ring this large at any of my local auto shops so I'm wondering one of two things.

1. Where can I buy this O-ring?

2. What level of stupidity would you consider me to be if I just put RTV in place of the O-ring?

The last question is a serious one as it does take some time for online orders to reach me.

You try a dealer yet? (perhaps they'll have some n.o.s. ones laying around... pt# for that is FOTZ-1K106-A)
You might also be able to turn up some at a junkyard (I believe the o-rings are all the same size D28 or D35, manual or auto hubs).

Failing that, I'd look for someplace on the 'net or mail-order somewhere that specializes in o-rings (RTV isn't likely to provide a good seal long-term since it won't be under any compression).

Thanks for the info, I'll keep looking. I just realized I blew up my passenger side hub when I was ran off the road last month so manual hubs may be in my future anyway...

I believe that a silicone bead that is let dry for at least 24 hours would act like an o-ring. I've found o-rings of the size you need at a bearing wholesaler.

Try a hardware store. Tell them you need to re-seal a hand pumped pressure sprayer. You might even look at a kitchen sink drain flange gasket..

Local one didn't have any O-rings(I live in a town of 600), but I'll see if I can find one in the city next time I make a trip. The truck is sitting waiting for rear brake components right now so it's not like it's hurting anything presently.

This is no longer an urgent issue since the truck isn't moving.
