I may have a deal worked out helping a guy here move his shop about 80 miles or so. At first i quoted him $1.50 per mile one way, for as many trips as it took. Then i noticed in his for sale section was an atlas 12,000lb winch. It looks brand new, he says he's used it a handful of times on his trailer, the trailer is gone and he no longer has a use for it. We negotiated a little and i got him at 4 trips for the winch.

I've never heard of atlas winches. Anyone know if they're worth a damn? Should i take the winch or the cash?

idk...but there's not much online about them??

how much is 4 trips at 1.50 a mile? $480?
i'd take the cash... for a little more money you can get a warn.. or just get a smittybilt and keep the extra cash. looks to be a lot like the gorilla winch, which have worse reviews than a smittybilt. but i personally can't say.

Just take the cash. Bro. If you can't check out the winch and make sure it even works...take the cash!!! Tax free money is hard to come by.

Well i'm in the market for a winch anyway and he's got about 8 loads worth of stuff for me to move so i'll be makijg plenty of tax free money anyway.

Its 12v. So far i've only seen reviews for what looks like atlas' only vendor. The reviews on the winch aren't bad but it seems their vendor sucks.

I would pass. It's sure to be a slow Chinese thing. For $150 more, you can get a Superwinch like I have--fast and integrated solenoids. I went through 2 Chinese slowpokes before deciding that they really suck so bad as to be unusable. Driving around with the winch cable shoved in the window because the damn thing is too slow to wind it back in sucks. It's an embarrassing thing to have to put up with. If all you want is a worthless decoration on the front of your truck, maybe someone makes a chrome plastic bling winch.

Take the money, buy a good winch. A winch that is good enough for a trailer isn't good enough for recovery.
