What turns off the ashtray light? It’s wired directly to the cigarette plug. I don’t see a switch that would trigger the light when the ashtray opens. Or maybe I’m missing that?

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
Should be 3 wires at the connector.

The light blue wire with white tracer is power to cigarette lighter, hot all the time.

The light blue wire with red tracer is for the light. It comes on when headlight switch is in the headlights position or parking lights position.

Black wire is ground.

Awesome thanks. That makes perfect sense. Only problem is I only have 2 wires. The blue with white and black.

It looks like someone wired it directly to power. I think I’m just going to wire it to the climate control backlight and call it good

Does the light work? The notes I'm seeing on the diagram indicate that not all vehicles had a light in the ash tray. "With light group only" which means it was an option. I wonder if your truck didn't have that option. But someone replaced the ash tray with one that has a light. So now you have the light but not the wiring for it. If it had power all the time, it would run down the battery.

Yeah, the light works. I don’t think the truck had a light originally. But it’s there now and I may as well make it work. I have it currently unplugged for the exact reason causing battery drain.
