Alright the day has come, my sister finally has her new 2011 Ford Fiesta, so I got her 1999 Ford Escort. My family doesnt have room for 5 cars in the driveway so out goes the Ranger. It's ok though, because it's more than likely going to someone who really needs it.

But I'm constantly searching on craigslist and I found this...http://milwaukee.craigslist.org/cto/1882081940.html

Now right now, I don't have a job and I'm a full time student, so not much money. But I can scrap together $500.

I emailed the guy and he said The body was redone in 98 and it could use another it's not a show car at any rate. the body itself, has 154000 miles on it. Since the engine and tranny was rebuilt and installed it has 200 apx. miles on it, the motor was rebuilt at apx. 52000 miles, it sat in a mustang unused for 3 1/2 years. The motor and trans were purchased for 750.00, the total install cost him $3400.

I still have to go look at it be here's what I figure.
-If you're going to put a 5.0 or even just $3400 into a 1986 ranger, the body isn't a rust bucket and the interior is decent.
-All it needs is a kickdown cable to run and drive, easy $80ish.
-If he really has $3400 into it and it's really this good of a deal, take $500 out of the bank and buy it without regrets, against my parent's wishes...I'm 18, I can take what ever my parents throw at me, and I never see that money in the bank anyway.

What would have to happen though, is the ranger would go into storage until I have enough money to pay for insurance, gas, and the project it would become. This would be at least a couple months, probably not until after winter.

I need your opinion, do you think this may be worth it? I will be looking at it later this week so I'll post pics and more details then.

I could try. Not too familiar with the AOD tranny. But i'm sure it isn't an impossible task.

I'm really curious as to what the body looks like. Probably has some bad body work. But I suppose it wouldn't be that hard to get decent sheet metal for it, if it were an issue.

the only thing with an AOD is the TV cable adjustment, other than that it's a pretty simple trans.

That's my deal too, how bad the body must be for it to be $500, cause there's 2 other 5.0 rangers on cl near milwaukee and one is $1000 and is like half down and the other is completely done and goregous for like $4000.

about the TV/kickdown cable, I sure I can figure it out...with some help obviously

Looking at it this weekend.

if you got a shop to do it that sounds right unles he bought everything relating to the engine/tranny new, except the engine/tranny. when we put one in a ranger it costed $1200 but we had the motor tranny sitting in the basement for free

if they had the money to install a 5.0 they wouldnt let it sit for just a kick down cable. there has to be a reason that they have only put 200 miles on it since install. i would have a mechanic inspect it first
