Hi Guys,

I'm based in Oz and have limited knowledge of the 2.8 cologne. I'm rebuilding her at the moment and seeking the ARP mains stud kit but can't find one. I've converted to 4 bolt mains so will need two kits. Does anyone have the ARP part numbers. What stretch bolts do you use?

Regards

Kev

I dunno If they have them but morana racing would be the place to check for engine parts for the 2.8. They are the cologne engine specialist. Even if they dont have them for sale, would be worth emailing them for info.

I'm curious how you converted to 4 bolt mains... never heard of anyone doing that before.

Can't create enough power to need this kind of upgrade unless you are adding boost or nitrous. Please explain more, inquiring minds wanna know?? I did the ARP rod bolts and had my stuff balanced out properly, staying NA but didn't ever question the mains. There are 2 bolt 400+hp SBC's out there. 4 bolt on a 2.8, I need to see this. Pictures?

You can always call ARP and they are more than happy to get you the proper ones for your application.

Hi guys, thanks for your replys. I have the 2.8 efi version from the UK and as a transition upgrade in production for a year before the 2.9 came out.

Anyway that's the base for the engine. It's been stroked to 3.5 by Power Engineering. They call it an Ultimax. That was done back in the 90's.

I've got new custom. pistons, 4 bolt mains - considering to make a mains girdle, shot pinned rods, heat treated crank and ringed block. Heads reworked bigger valves, custom cam for turbo application and a potato T4 turbo. Wolf v500 ECU, T5 5 speed and single prop shaft.

I hope that helps. It's in bits at the moment and putting it together now.

Its probably better to be self deprecating than self defecating.

Desired rpm can necessitate stronger bolts if it's above the factory limit, not just a high hp number.

Apparently Burtons Power in the UK carries all that stuff.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
I think we need pictures of this beast. Sounds like this project is going "above and beyond".

Hi guys,

I'll send photos eventually once built. Uk do supply but as ARP is a US business I thought it might be cheaper to get them from here. Fro. Research they might just get them individually to form the kit. I'll basically need 2 kits. I've had them before but as stretch bolts, one time use.

Well that explains it. Like to see where this goes.

Was told by some guy who used to put these in dune buggies stock main bolts work up to @7500-8000rpm, rods shouldn't see anything sustained past 6000rpm unless you do bolts. 8k on a USA NA 2.8 single cam is asking for a breather in the side of your block. Most people max these about 6800 even with special sauce cams since it was hard to get more air from even the offy setup. Also told me they made they would put 2.9 heads and make their own intake mani's once the 2.9 came out, with mixed success.

Yes I heard about the head swap but that only works on USA blocks. Easiest way to get more air/power is turbo it.
