Once again I need to pick your brains. Is the power steering pump the same on a 4.0 v6 and on 2.5l ? I'm not talking about the brackets from the pump to the engine, just the pump it's self?

Yes, according to Ford 1998-2006 Ranger power steering pumps were all the same, regarless of engine size, but like you said not the brackets

Earlier and later show different numbers, and you didn't mention the year of the 4.0l

1994-2000 Explorers also show same as 1998-2006 Rangers

4.0 is a 97 and the 2.5l is 98. Also is the body parts ( doors, complete grille and headlights assembly ) interchangeable?

My credo
it is easier to fix and understand than "her"
there is a pressure side hose difference in there...i think the sla is different later on late 2000's....but 90's iirc are all the same pump..

I would think since the Explorer used the same 4.0l engine 1997 pump might be OK to used, but Ford doesn't list it as compatible for Rangers

I can't say for sure on body parts but I would say no, because the Ranger had body changes in 1998

Basically there are 3 generations of Rangers in the 1983 to 2011 years
1983 to 1992, 1989-1992 had front clip changed, Gen 1 and 1.5

1993 to 1997 Gen 2

1998-2011 Gen 3

1993 to 2011 have many interchangeable body parts, just not sure about those parts you mentioned

If you don't have time to do it right will you have time to do it over?
I often will use Rock Auto's website to check stuff like this,it's quick and easy to look up the parts for both applications and see if they're the same. I used to go to the parts room and look up whatever I wanted on the CPD, then hit control5 and it would list everything the part fit. I miss that.

I can't comment on the power steering pump, but 93-11 are more/less the same from firewall back - doors, box, dash, seats, etc. There are some minor differences, i.e. tail lights are only common from '93 to 00, but most of it is "bolt on". Firewall forward - fenders, hood, grill, lights, bumpers are all different between 93-97, 98-00, 01-?04? and ?04-11. Depending on your level of craftsmanship/how much you are replacing, it can be made work, it won't be a bolt on.
