i have a question about the AODE and the C6 auto transmission.now my question is whats the difference betweenthe 2?i just picked up a 1994 mustang gt auto with the AODE trans.now i c people usually use the C4 trans for this swap, but can it be done with the AODE trans?if so what kind of issues will i encounter?any help would be great.also is the c4 the predecessor of the aode trans.which i think the c4 is a 3 spd auto not a 4 spd correct?

in the things an overdrive was roughly added to catagory....

the a4ld is based off of the c3.....asshats should have based it off of the c4...but this is the hell we live in...

the aod is based roughly off of the fmx.

the e4od is based from the c6.....

the c6 is almost as strong as a 400, which is what the 4l80 is based off of.

the chryslers are really interesting for the early overdrive transmission.

it is my first choice....well the 4r70w version....

in terms of sbf swaps with autos, the aod-4r70w power most swaps.....the m5od r2 power most manuals. i suspect 4x4 is more common since the late 90's....

c4's and srod's and t5's were common in the 80's and 90's in regards to 2wd.

It really depends on how you want to set it up.

The AODe is a good trans, but it is also computer controlled, and so you must run fuel injection. If you were planning to go with a carb (the only dumber course of action I can think of is using a shotgun as a rectal dilator and then purposely discharging it while it is still inserted) then you should stay away from electronically controlled transmissions.

But they are fairly simple mechanically, not much to go wrong, and they are easy enough to work on when you have to. The 4R70W, which is a later version, is somewhat better.

What do you use for a controller without the feedback from the EFI sensors?

what do you mean? there are and have been several controllers.

before there were aftermarket controllers.... i learned to piggyback the factory eec... just to be able to use the e4od and later the 4r70w... piggy back is less then perfect but i have done quite a few times with decent results...... you still need to fit up a tps and map sensors temp ect....

not hard. been doing it for decades.

they are working on the 10 speed....but the 4 and 6 is very nice stuff....

https://www.usshift.com/usq4.shtml

the 6r80 is a beast of a trans.....6-700 for one of these controllers and a few hundred for an adapter to get back to a windsor is smart money.....it cost me more in parts to build an e4od myself then to procure this system and a solid 6r80 used trans and get it going....and the 6r80 is still superior...

Yea that's what I mean, the electronic controlled transmissions need the TPS and Maf/map input to calculate load. I've just never seen a stand alone controller that replaces these inputs from an EFI system to work on a Carbed system. Wasn't questioning you, just curious how the setup works.

If you like radio shack... or what radio shack was 30 years ago, check out mouser.com. It's the 21st century equivalent of a 1990s radio shack.

I still have an operating Radio Shack near me.

Its in with a Hobby Town, so I can buy TC cars, model trains, model models, and my electronics components all in one place.

One of my favorite stores, my only complaint is that it isn't closer to the hardware surplus store I buy my metal stock at, which in turn needs to be closer to where I work, because I can't get there and back over lunch.
